The Written Beginning of the War of Independence: Amasya Circular
The Amasya Circular, the first decisive step of the Turkish nation on the path to independence, was declared in Amasya on June 22, 1919. With this document, the basic principles of the War of Independence were clearly set forth and it was emphasized that the nation would take ownership of its own destiny.
'The Nation's Independence Will Again Be Saved by the Nation's Determination and Determination'
This statement, the most striking sentence of the Amasya Circular, emphasized that the spirit of the period and the will of the people would be the basis of a resistance. Prepared under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Pasha, the circular went down in history as the first official call for the convening of national congresses with the participation of the people and the liberation of the homeland from the enemy.
The National Delegations and Congress Process Has Begun
After the Amasya Circular, Erzurum and Sivas Congresses were held, and the national will was reinforced with representatives elected by the people. These developments resulted in the opening of the Turkish Grand National Assembly in 1920. The Turkish Grand National Assembly, as the legitimate authority conducting the War of Independence, effectively implemented the principle of national sovereignty.
Amasya's Historical Heritage is Remembered After 106 Years
Today, on its 106th anniversary, the Amasya Circular is remembered not only as a document, but also as a road map that formed the foundation of the Republic of Turkey. The Nationalist Movement Party Beykoz District Presidency also published a message reminding us of the Amasya Circular's place in the struggle for independence, stating: 'The nation's independence will be saved by the nation's determination and resolve.'
